London's PACS Is Falling Down

Posted Sep 26 2008 5:16pm
It seems that London (Ontario, not that other London) has a little problem. According to the London Free Press,

London and area doctors are being asked to carefully select which patients need X-rays after the $50-million digital system serving eight hospitals was partially crippled during a weekend computer upgrade.
London's hospitals have brought in more staff and reverted to using X-ray film, a technology they left behind five years ago when they switched to the new system.

London's two hospitals share the system with hospitals in Ingersoll, Strathroy, Newbury, St.Thomas, Tillsonburg, Woodstock, Stratford, Goderich, Exeter, St. Marys, Seaforth and Clinton.

Oops. Just in case you were interested, Hewlett Packard supplied the hardware, and.....
HP teamed on the project with GE Healthcare, a major provider of transformational medical technologies, and Cerner Corp., a leading supplier of healthcare information technology. GE Healthcare is providing the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and Cerner is providing its Cerner Millennium® platform for electronic patient records and radiology.

Sorry. Hope it gets fixed quickly. Many thanks to Miss Pat for the tip.
