LifeBridge Health Community Events for the Month of October

LifeBridge Health offers a variety of wellness education classes, lectures and screenings every week. These community events range from breastfeeding support groups to stress reduction and relaxation classes. They are all part of LifeBridge Health’s commitment to making sure that the local community is leading a healthy lifestyle.

So, what are the upcoming events for the month of October? (Click on the links to learn more and register).

10/1/12 - Sinai Bariatrics Information Session - Interested in losing weight? Join us for a free information seminar to learn if bariatric surgery is right for you. Hosted by Christina Li, MD, FACS, Division Head of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Sinai Hospital and Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon or by Cynthia Long, MD, FACS, Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon. These sessions are for new patients in the Baltimore area.

10/1/12 - Managing Diabetes: The Next Step - Learn how you can have better blood sugar from a real patient, with real A1C control, providing real inspiration. Pre-registration required.

10/3/12 - Heart Health & Lifestyle Screening – Pikesville - Blood pressure, body composition analysis, cholesterol/triglycerides, comprehensive metabolic panel blood profile, personal lifestyle questionnaire, and brief health education counseling with R.N. Must fast for 8 hours. Appointments are required.

10/5/12 - Free Hip X-Ray Scan and Consultation - If you experience hip pain, join Harpal (Paul) Khanuja, M.D., at the  Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics at Sinai Hospital  for a free hip X-Ray screening and consultation. The event will take place on Friday, October 5, 2012, from 4-6 p.m. on the 5th floor of the Rubin Institute at Sinai.

10/6/12 - Health Fair Plus Heart Screening – Northwest Hospital - For men and women age 18 and older, blood pressure, cholesterol/triglycerides, comprehensive metabolic blood profile, body composition analysis, breathing screening, cataract screening, and brief health education counseling with R.N. Must fast for 8 hours. Appointments are required.

10/6/12 - Step Out Walk To Stop Diabetes – Sinai Team - Get ready to lace up your sneakers put your best foot forward at the American Diabetes Association’s annual Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes on Saturday, October 6. In Baltimore, check-in kicks off at 8 a.m. and the event starts at 9:30 a.m. at Rash Field at the Inner Harbor.

10/9/12 - Sinai Bariatrics Information Session – Elkridge - Interested in losing weight? Join us for a free information seminar to learn if bariatric surgery (weight-loss surgery) is right for you. Hosted by  Christin Li, MD, FACS , Division Head of  Minimally Invasive Surgery at Sinai Hospital  and Advanced Laparscopic and Bariatric Surgeon, these sessions are for new patients in the Elkridge area.

10/10/12 - Strive to Succeed-Vitamin & Protein Shake Tasting - Bariatric Advantage will provide vitamin samples, freebies, and taste tests along with information about why vitamin supplementation is so important following bariatric surgery. Bring your favorite protein shake recipe and walk away with a plethora of new shakes to try!

10/10/12 - Free Joint Pain Talk -  ou are invited to a free joint pain talk with orthopedic surgeon, Ronald Delanois, M.D., from  The Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics. 

10/11/12 - Diabetes Awareness – Journey to Control - The Diabetes and Nutrition Center at Northwest Hospital is sponsoring the Journey for Control Program to teach diabetic patients about diabetes, controlling their blood sugar and healthy eating.

10/12/12 - Open House – Herman & Walter Samuelson Breast Care Center - If you haven’t yet seen the beautiful, spa-like Herman & Walter Samuelson Breast Care Center at Northwest Hospital (or even if you have), now’s your chance! Join the breast care team in celebrating October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and find out why the Samuelson Breast Care Center is the most comfortable place in Greater Baltimore to have a mammogram.

10/15/12 - Sinai Hospital Bariatrics Informational Webinar - Interested in losing weight? Join us for a free information webinar to learn if Bariatric Surgery is right for you. 10/17/12 - Heart Health & Lifestyle Screening – Vollmer Center - For men & women ages 18-70, includes blood pressure, cholesterol/triglycerides, comprehensive metabolic panel blood profile, body composition analysis, personal lifestyle questionnaire, and brief health education counseling with a registered nurse. $20 fee. Appointment required.

10/20/12 - 7th Annual Save-A-Limb Ride, Walk and Festival - Join us for a day full of fun rides, an inspiring walk, live music, and great food—all for a good cause—at the 7th Annual Save-A-Limb Ride, Walk and Festival.

10/22/12 - Free Running Evaluation Clinic - LifeBridge Health is offering a free running evaluation clinic on two dates: October 22 and October 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. At this clinic, you’ll have the opportunity to have your running technique observed by a trained physical therapist. You’ll also receive pointers on proper running techniques and what kind of footwear would work best for you.

10/24/12 - Girls’ Night Out: Be Dazzling - We’re celebrating the launch of Spirit of Women at Northwest Hospital, and you are invited to our fabulous party.  It’s all about your journey to better health! 10/24/12 - Free Back Pain Seminar - Back pain is the most common form of pain.  It can strike when we least expect it and in many different ways.  But you don’t have to let it dictate your life. Join expert Edward Soriano, D.O., for his practical tips and keen insights on all things back pain. The seminar will be at Levindale Town Center at 2434 West Belvedere Avenue near Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. And it is free!

10/24/12 - Strive to Succeed-Back to Basics - Mike and Tammie are back to keep you on track. This is the time to revisit the bariatric lifestyle habits if you’ve strayed off. It’s never too late!

10/25/12 - Concussions and the Rec League Athlete - You don’t have to be a pro to sustain a concussion. But you can be informed like one by coming to a FREE seminar with concussion expert  Kevin Crutchfield, M.D.  This seminar will give you an opportunity to learn how to spot the symptoms of a concussion and what you need to do if you think you have one. This seminar is also a great resource for those who run an adult sports league.

10/25/12 - Northwest Bariatrics Information Session - Interested in losing weight? Join us for a free information seminar to learn if bariatric surgery is right for you. Hosted by Kuldeep Singh MD., Division Head of Bariatric Surgery at Northwest Hospital.

10/27/12 - ThyCa – Thyroid Cancer Support Group - Second Saturday of each month – Pre-registration is required.

10/27/12 - Breast Friends (Young Survivors) Support Group - Held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Support, education, and advocacy for women age 40 and younger who are breast cancer survivors. Call for more information. Pre-registration required.

10/27/12 – Breast Cancer Support Group – Northwest Hospital - Usually held on the third Wednesday of each month. For women with breast cancer, moderated by Jessica Ward, R.N., of the Herman & Walter Samuelson Breast Care Center. Pre-registration required.

10/27/12 - Cancer Support Group - Meets most months on the first Wednesday. No meetings in January or February.
