I came across this paper that shows the effects of overfeeding. There have been questions as to which comes first - inflammation or insulin resistance. This study overfed humans subjects for a month. Afterwards, subjects gained fat mass and showed signs of insulin resistance. There was no change in inflammatory makers.
It's good news in a way, because if you can control the excessive calorie intake, you can reduce insulin resistance and ultimately inflammation as well.
