My 16-year-old daughter has developed deficits in her hands and arms within the last 6 to 9 months, to the level of the mid-forearm in both arms. She cannot feel pain or temperature. She does feel pressure and light touch. She has some intermittent itching that she cannot relieve because she cannot feel the scratching. There is no motor involvement...she plays the flute in band, and continues to do well with that.
She has had normal blood work, normal x-rays, and normal nerve conduction studies.
The next step appears to be a visit with a neurologist, but as her mom, I'd like to be a little prepared for what to expect, and possible diagnoses.
