I have had the same symptoms for years. It turned out that a valve in my stomach was not closing all the eay and it was letting the stomach acid to escape into my throat. It was called a "shotsky's ring (sp).

Ask your physician to check that possibility. It can be remedied with a simple, day surgery.

I have terrible heartburn as well.  I have been to several doctors and really received no answers.  My throat was hurting and my ears as well.  So I went to my ENT.  He looked at my vocal cords and asked if I had heartburn.  He said that the acid from my stomach was causing the sore throat and ear pain.  I started taking anitacids and it quit hurting.  I would also consider seeing another gastro doctor and having an endoscopy.
