In a medical emergency, you should dial 911 for an ambulance. A medical emergency is a critical, or life-threatening, situation. It will usually be obvious if you, or someone else, is seriously ill, or injured, and needs emergency care.
If you require treatment and it is felt that you are in medical need of non-emergency transport, a health professional can organize it on your behalf.
Your situation and medical condition will be assessed by your doctor or dentist, who will decide if you are eligible for non-emergency transport. They will consider factors such as the availability of private or public transport, and the distance to be travelled. Each patient should be able to reach hospital in a reasonable time, in comfort and without any harm to their health.
