Here is something new that I have not heard about until now..from an article on the Armenian Medical Network …never heard of this site either.
Hormonal contraceptives, sometimes may provoke Vasculitis.
Apparently there have been a few studies which confirm that ” hormonal contraceptives, sometimes may provoke Vasculitis ”
Below is a snipit from the article on the site…
” Oral contraceptives (OCs) can affect the skin through their hormonal effects or through iatrogenic effects associated with their toxicity in certain individuals. Toxic effects of OCs are rare but potentially serious; they should be diagnosed early and require permanent termination of OC use. The clinical manifestations are variable and not specific to the medication. ”
” The most frequently reported manifestations are allergic vascularities which may lead to serious renal complications, fixed pigmented erythema, urticaria, and lichenoid eruptions (5). “
This leads me to ask a few questions about contraceptives for women in general…
Is there any type of time frame involved as to when a woman starts to use a contraceptive…in other words could a woman be on a contraceptive for many years or just a few months before symptoms start to be exhibited?
Just how large of a test group was involved in these studies?
Was there a particular brand of Oral Contraceptive that may have caused this reaction?
I can see where this information would certainly cause the pharmaceutical manufactures to roll their eyeballs, and just try to downplay any and all of this info as it could really put a dent in their profit margins…and could also cause men to have to take the initiative as far as protected sex is concerned.
It will be interesting to see if more reports surface on this subject in the near future.
