From time to time I find myself launching a new blog that is different in tone and content than "Notes from the Country Doctor" which now seems like such a comfortable and old friend to me. I've tried a journal club blog, a health news blog, and have even toyed with the idea of a virtual group visits via this medium.
While the possibilities that blogging holds still fascinates me, at its core it remains a medium for people to create a public diary. These diaries are therapeutic both for the writer who is able to document their hopes, anxieties, accomplishments and failures, as well as the reader who comes to know others who share similar challenges in life.
With this is mind, I'd like to offer up my latest blog, "Heal Thyself, MD: A Blogazine for Physicians". More than just an unfiltered blog aggregator, this is meant to be a virtual magazine highlighting the many excellent contributions physicians have made to this format. Like a magazine, it has editorials and departments: Heal Thyself International, a section with feeds from non-US physician blogs; Healers in Training, a heading filled with contributions from pre-meds, med students, and residents; and House of God Humor, containing blogs that focus on the quirkier sides of our jobs. At its heart, however, is the The Art of Medicine--a section with feeds from some of the most inspiring and authentic physician blogs on the Internet.
As the nature of the Internet is ever evolving and ever changing, so too will be "Heal Thyself, MD". In a few weeks or months things may look very different in format and technical content, but the spirit will remain the same. Comment is always welcome and encouraged in what is now a blogging tradition. My hope is that "Heal Thyself, MD" will become the place that physicians can come to share, to complain, and to become inspired.
