has any research been done on infrared coagulation on tonsils?

Removing tonsils can be quite painful, and possibly event dangerous for older patients.  Infrared coagulation has been deemed successful in treating other conditions with minimum pain and discomfort.  Has it been researched or done on tonsils?

And what about cryosurgery as an alternative?  Anything new in the field?
