Some very good news to report. I just learned this morning that the US has changed its position on lindane, and at next week's Stockholm Convention meeting in Geneva they will support listing of lindane for global phaseout without calling for an exemption for pharmaceutical use (shampoos and lotions to control lice and scabies).
This is a tremendous victory. I thank everyone who has worked on this over the years - calling for a full global ban of lindane.
Although the US is not yet bound by decisions under the Stockholm Convention (we have not yet ratified the treaty), global listing of lindane is bound to pressure FDA to speed the withdrawal of its use here.
