Gift of Hope Quilt Honors Loved Ones' Legacies

Posted Aug 24 2008 12:34am

At tomorrow's second annual Quilt & Textile Show, Gift of Hope will demonstrate how organ donation is the common thread in so many different lives as they display a quilt paying hommage to the men, women and children who have given the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. The quilt is intended to honor the donors as well as call attention to the crucial need for more lifesaving registrations .

Quilts focus on 'gift of life': organ donation

July 9, 2008

Perhaps the greatest gift one can give is the gift of life, and during the second annual Quilt & Textile Show beginning Friday, July 11, Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network will be on hand displaying quilts that portray just that.

Honoring legacies and connecting lives, Gift of Hope and its Donor Family Advisory Council are piecing together quilts honoring the men, women and children who have given the gift of hope through organ and tissue donation.

The purpose of the quilts is to help families pay homage to their loved ones' legacies, as well as extend the impact of their precious gifts through public awareness.

Visitors who view the Gift of Hope quilts will also have the opportunity to register to become an organ and tissue donor. For more information about becoming a donor, visit www.DonateLifeIllinois.org.

The Gift of Hope donor quilts along with approximately 100 other quilts submitted by local residents will be on display throughout the quilt show, which is held in conjunction with Windmill City Festival. Quilt show hours are as follows: 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 13. The Quilt Show will be held at Shannon Hall, 14 N. Van Buren St. Admission is $5 or $4 for seniors. Children 10 and under are free.

Batavia's Quilt & Textile Show is presented by the Batavia Depot Museum and sponsored by Prairie Shop Quilts.
