Female Hormones Strengthen the Bones of Men

Posted by S. L.

New research shows that estrogen, the female sex hormone, is also important for men's health. The estrogen in men's blood appears to be even more closely related to how strong their bone structure is than their testosterone level. Male estrogen is created from the testosterone in fatty tissues and it is believed that since thin men have less fatty tissue to convert the testosterone into estrogen, thinner men have weaker bones. However, about half of the cases of male osteoporosis are directly due to either disease or a specific illness that has prevented the production of new bone matter.
