Evaluations

It's that time of year again for my chain.

Pharmacy manager evaluations.


To me it's a waste of time.
  • For me.
  • For my store manager.
  • And for the Director of Pharmacy Operations.

Here's what's going to happen... I'm going to come in at the butt-crack of dawn on my day off to meet with my two bosses. We're going to escape to an empty office and sit down. Chit chat for a few minutes then get down to the nitty -gritty.

We'll start to see if I met the financial goals for the past year. I won't. Because the budgets for the past two years have been severely flawed. I have pointed out these flaws each year, but they were not corrected. Whatever the lowest score is on this section, that's what I'll get.

Then we'll move on to the professional growth goals. I'll do better here. But since I don't go out and speak at the local Lions Club (who has time with three kids who are involved in every activity under the sun), I won't get the top marks. Actually I have marketed myself to these organizations, they just don't want a pharmacist to speak. But oh well.

Then there's the stuff that will be left out of the evaluation. Things like remarks from the technicians. You know, the people who actually see how well you do your job. No dispensing errors for over two years... won't be in the evaluation. Save the company thousands by identifying pricing errors when updates are downloaded... no mention.

Forget that we have been fully self-sufficient for the past 18 months. We haven't had to call on a relief agency or another pharmacy in our chain to staff the pharmacy during vacations. We actually reduce our pharmacist expense when we go on vacation. The only time that the director even sees our pharmacy is when he comes by to hand-deliver reports to me every month or so. As opposed to some of the pharmacies that get visited on a weekly basis because of all the issues going on that the manager can't take care of.

Overall I expect to receive a score somewhere around 2.7 out of 10.0.
