here in New Zealand. We are the first country in the Asia South Pacific region to be confirmed. Considering we are such a remote country, this is quite surprising. Kiwis do love travel though so we have become our own worst enemy. The 11 cases all tested positive for influenza A, due to three cases being tested positive for swine flu, the authorities are sure all 8 indeed have the swine virus. 43 other cases have shown symptoms. I received an email yesterday from the University stating 2 students and 2 teachers are being quarantined here in Christchurch. The positive is that we have only just returned back to Uni after the holidays, therefore the risk is incredibly low of cross infection. In the larger area of Canterbury (where Fi and I live) there are 14 suspected cases. What is concerning is the Flight NZ1 passengers who flew down to Christchurch were not tracked down. They had to contact the health authorities. One woman fears a larger level of exposure as most of these people mixed with the general public over the weekend, including parties and sports events. The authorities are doing their best to ensure calm and not create panic within the population.
