Eating Healthy and Living Healthy; My Own Worst Enemy

Posted Aug 09 2011 12:00am

Hi there all.

Well, sometimes I can be my own worst enemy and that usually happens when I begin new projects and so I would expect nothing new (and neither should you by now) and so my case study about getting healthy officially began this morning rather than yesterday but it is what it is.

So obviously from the title of this article, my thinking is that everything begins by eating right when it comes to getting healthy. In my opinion they work hand in hand, because I learned many moons ago as a sometime weightlifter, that if you feed the body well, the body will reward you, and vise versa of course.

So I want to break this case study down a bit, but before I get into all of that I should state what the goal of all of this is, a mission statement if you will and my basic thought about this whole case study.

I always feel that you should work off a general plan, because without a general approach to how your going to do something your plan can get off track very easily, and so I think the first thing that I should be doing is just to state the goal here and what I hope to accomplish with all of this.

“The overall goal of this new case study is to gradually change my overall lifestyle in order to become a healthier person at 54 years of age.

I intend to accomplish this through adjusting my eating habits, getting into an exercise routine that I have to commit to, and adjust my overall lifestyle by making subtle adjustments to my everyday living habits.”

Okay, this statement works for me, and I hope it works for you too.

So, lets break things down now into the three things mentioned in my mission statement.

If you happened to catch my video that I recorded last week when I first announced this new study you may have noticed those “Funny Bones,” and that “Three Musketeers” candy bar that I bought, well I ate that candy bar yesterday and today I’m going cold turkey.

A while back I came across a diet guide that I believe was aimed at people who have vasculitis, and while I want to take a closer look at that guide I also want to aim this new case study at people who have diabetes and just to people who are out of shape, have let themselves go and maybe just need some encouragement too get back on that horse and get back into it.

Also one of the new things that I’m trying out is something called an “Aloe Vera Drink” basically a drink that uses Aloe Vera juice and some of the pulp included from the plant itself in the mix.

I have found as local company that makes this drink, and the name of that company is called Sabila, and they are a local home grown company here in Orange County NY. I’m actually going to be having a breakfast meeting with a representative from the company this Friday, and I will be doing a feature article here on the blog about them before the end of the week is over.

Okay, I’ll just come out and admit that I haven’t done regular exercise in many a moon, and frankly while I can come out and use excuses such as I’m older (which I am) and I almost always wake up feeling terrible anymore (which I do) I also know that regular exercise is very important to my and your continued good health and that goes for anyone at just about any age.

Of course I’m very familiar with what will work for my particular needs and what won’t and what I would be willing to do and what I won’t. I have always eluded to eventually getting back into a routine at a local gym, and as far as I’m concerned, that’ still on the table so we will have to see what the future holds for that aspect of things.

By now everyone is aware that I had  major lifestyle adjustment occur at the end of last year…I was unemployed, and I’ve been adjusting ever since. Unfortunately I would have to say that I have not adjusted very well to being my own boss and trying to find work all the time for my new business.

When you are self employed it’s very different from having that steady paycheck each week (or every other the way I used to) so scrambling for work to make ends meet has left me totally stressed out on a regular (that would be daily) basis and for someone with CSS that’s not what you want to be going through.

So I have to make some major adjustments to what I do on a regular basis to help me adjust to this new lifestyle (and I do realize that there are many others who earn a living as freelancers) but for someone who has been a factory worker all of their lives and are used to punching a clock each day and having a certain task that you perform each day, this new career is still taking me a lot to get used to doing.

So today is the beginning for me, and I will be doing a journal entry probably tomorrow about this probably tomorrow at some point.

So come on back often to see how this new case study is progressing and to ask a question or two if you have one.

So until the next time…

Lew
