Every mom dreams of being at her son’s wedding. To proudly watch as he welcomes the love of his life to the family, with relatives and close friends all in attendance.
Debby Harris witnessed her son Wesley exchange vows with his new bride, Lauren, this weekend. And she cried tears of joy throughout the entire ceremony…even if the ceremony was not where you might expect it to be.
Debby is a patient at Sinai Hospital ’s new Louis and Phyllis Friedman Neurological Rehabilitation Center because, unfortunately, she wasn’t well enough to attend her son’s wedding on Saturday in Arlington, Virginia. While the blessing of technology allowed her to see the ceremony through Skype, it still wasn’t the same.
That was until her family came up with a wonderful idea: Bring the wedding to her!
So this Sunday, family and friends gathered in the conference room at the neuro center to witness Wesley and Lauren renew their day-old vows. As the Reverend Robert Turner performed the ceremony, Debby watched with tears in her eyes and her husband William’s hand in hers as her son tied the knot.

“This means everything to her,” said William.
This is also a wonderful way to help kick off the opening of the neuro center. The heart of the center is all about making the care and well-being of patients and their families front and center. This Sunday, this principle was truly on display.
