Contact a doctor about incontinence, sufferers told

Posted Mar 02 2011 1:28pm

Incontinence remains an embarrassing issue despite the fact that it is a common problem that many people are likely to experience at some point as they age, it has been stated.

Many of those using incontinence products prefer not to talk about the condition and some even face difficulty speaking to a doctor about the problem or go as far as hiding it from family members, reports burbank.com.

However, the website stated that it is “extremely important” to see a medical professional about incontinence as tests can be conducted to see if it is a permanent problem or simply a reaction to a medication.

“If it is a problem with the medications, then the drug can be switched or the dosage can be modified to correct the problem and alleviate the incontinence,” explained the site.

The site also stated that while it may not be ideal to let everyone know about the problem, “it is important to tell the medical professional, and it can be very helpful to tell one’s children or best friends”.

More than 50 million people in the developed world, many of whom use incontinence products , are thought to be affected by the condition, according to the NHS.
