Chronic Pain: Life Does Go On

Posted Oct 06 2009 6:01pm

As I was sitting at my computer today, it occurred to me that only 1 year ago, I couldn't have been here. I was only able to sit for about 10 minutes at a time. You see, I suffer from RSD ( Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy ).

It is painful, incurable neurological condition.

How do you get it? UNKNOWN. Experts cannot even agree how one person gets it and others don't.

The cure? UNKNOWN. So little is known about the human body. Only time and research will tell.

What I do know about is pain. Lots of it, 24/7. It is burning, hot and at times feels like glass being stabbed in every part of my body. That's what "nerve" pain feels like. Whether you suffer from RSD, neuropathy, diabetes or fibromyalgia, the pain is the same. It is invisible and relative to each person.

As the years progress, I have tried medications of every kind. Pills, patches and lollipops never seem to make the pain go away. Meditation, vitamins and a TENS unit help somewhat. I read about "new" medical advances in pain management every day. But, these options won't be available for years and then will someone like me be able to afford these new therapy's? Probably not.

My last option, which should have been my first, was prayer. With it, I am able to sit here today. Yes, I am in a wheelchair and my hands no longer function. But, the fact that I am talking to you today, through my blog, is proof that GOD can help. All you need to do is ask!
