can you get sore throat from an infected salivary gland

I have been diagnosed with a salivary gland stone rather large. I have been scheduled for surgery in a couple days. My question is could this stone or infection cause me to be sick with flu like or cold symptoms. I dont have a fever but sore throat, runny nose, a small painfull cough that sort of symptoms I just want to know hopefully this will all go away after the surgery
