A reader asked if I was really going to follow through with my plan to appeal to big city cosmetic dermatologists sense of altruism and decency and see if any of them actually would be interested in running a consult clinic out of my rural office. Forty letters went out in the mail today. Here's a copy of the letter with appropriate editing performed to hide my secret location:
Dear Colleague:
If you are looking for a lucrative practice opportunity this is not it; however, if you’ ve ever considered what it would be like to periodically serve in a rural under served area without having to leave your current practice here’s your chance.
"The Country Doctor's Practice" is actively recruiting a dermatologist for a once a month referral based consultation clinic for our rural medically under served county. The clinic would be located in our newly remodeled office and filled with appreciative patients of all ages. Business and staffing arrangements are flexible and negotiable.
A logging and farming town of three thousand, we are located...(not going to say). Currently the entire county has only one dermatologist and only five practice within a fifty mile radius. All too often patients find themselves waiting three months
or longer to be seen; a source of frustration for both the patients as well as
the area primary care providers.
If you’ ve felt the need to expand the array of pathology you see, if you’ ve wanted to find a way to give back to a community in need, or if you’ ve just always wanted to try out being a “Northern Exposure” type doc, please e-mail me to continue this conversation and discuss the next step.
Sincerely,
The Country Doctor
