I decided to to try some barefoot trail running last night. I went to a trail that I had run in Vibrams last year to see what it would be like completely barefoot. Wow, what a difference!
The absence of the thin protection of the Vibrams totally changes everything. Going barefoot your feet get much more of a workout. You have to be more careful with foot placement. Your feet have to mold around rocks or other parts of the surfaces.
Check out this video below to see what I mean. There is a person running barefoot on a trail next to a person running in Vibrams. The Vibrams allow the one person to run with a lazy stride, while the barefoot runner has to run with short, quick strides out of necessity.
