A few months ago, I posted a video featuring Lee Saxby working with a barefoot runner. In just a short amount of time, the runner showed considerable improvement. In the video, Saxby put the runner through some drills, but they are shown in fast-forward time.
For months, I've wondered what these drills were. I even emailed Terra Plana about the drills though I didn't receive a response. Nonetheless, Terra Plana has now released a short training video by Lee Saxby for barefoot runners.
Let me start by saying that this video is tremendous! First, Saxby has the runner remove his shoes. After a few seconds, the runner naturally adjusts to a forefoot landing. As I wrote about before, shoes block the crucial feedback that the feet are looking for.
What's interesting though is that going barefoot does not improve the runner's posture. So going barefoot to improve your running is only half of the equation. You also have to improve your posture.
Saxby gives the runner four simple drills to "reset" the posture. Then, back on the treadmill the runner now runs efficiently. Amazing!
