Associate Faculty Member Travel Grant – 2011 Winners

Last year we established the ‘Associate Faculty Member Travel Grant Fund’ in recognition of our Associate Faculty Members’ (AFMs) contribution to F1000. For every evaluation published in each Faculty area, we added $1 to that Faculty’s fund. Eligible AFMs had six or more published evaluations in 2011 and applied for a grant; winners were selected from this group by lottery. In total, 14,906 evaluations were published in 2011 and each winner received $250 to put toward attending a scientific conference of their choice.
In 2012, rather than employing a lottery, the F1000 Editorial Directors will select the winners from eligible AFMs based on the evaluations they judge to be most noteworthy.
Commenting on the Travel Grant Scheme, F1000 Editor-in-Chief Sarah Greene said: “Mentoring junior researchers has been an important facet of our Faculty Members’ responsibilities, strengthening skills in critical thinking, keeping up with the literature, and providing constructive commentary. We hope this fund will be an extra incentive for AFMs to share their insights with our readership and thereby strengthen our coverage of biology and medical research.”
