Are Free Radicals Vital to Suppressing Appetites?

Posted Aug 29 2011 7:25pm
I read an article in  Science Daily  which claims that “obesity is growing at alarming rates.” Of course, the biggest culprit is overeating.

Sounds like a no-brainer to me, but the article further describes the importance of free radicals—“molecules tied to aging and tissue damage”—which are at the center of “increased appetite in diet-induced obesity.”

In this study from Yale University, researchers found that increased levels of free radicals have had an effect on suppressing appetites. Although, on the flip side, it is also thought that free radicals drive aging progression. So, you want these free radicals to help suppress your appetite but “free radicals damage cells and promote aging.”

You can check out more info on this study in this article from  Science DailyFree Radicals Crucial to Suppressing Appetite.

What do you think about this issue on free radicals? We’d love to hear your thoughts.
