Past entries have dealt with our practices recent struggles in getting paid by Medicare. I've learned that many practices in our neck of the woods are having similar issues. It seems that much of the issue is surrounding basically clerical errors and confusion about where a physician identifier number, called an NPI, goes on a form. Finally our office has seen some of our payments come in for services that were delivered four months ago, but not all practices have recovered.
In the midst of all this, all I could think about was what if the government was the only insurer? What if there was some silly computer glitch or technical detail that wasn't working correctly and if the only source of revenue that physicians had was at the other end of that computer glitch?
