There is good evidence that a baby aspirin a day is effective at prevening strokes and heart attacks in high risk individuals A baby aspirin is about 80 mg, or 1/3 of a standard 325 mg tablet.
Aspirin is a powerful medicine that has significant side effects, most notably that it causes bleeding from the stomach. Fortunately, the bleeding risk is related to dosage, and is minimal with very small doses.
Nonetheless, there is a very slightly increased risk of bleeding from the stomach with this tiny dose of aspirin, so this preventive should be undertaken only for those who are at increased risk - current recommendations are for men over 45 and women over 55 who have increased risk factors, such as prior heart attack or stroke, diabetes, increased blood pressure, high cholesterol, or strong family history. You should definitely discuss this with your physician before beginning.

I watch Dr. Oz show and really like him. He, too, recently recommended a baby dose aspirin a day. I don't take it. But against too much acid in the body – an excellent neutralizer: Yucca capsules, brand "Nature's Way" at "Country Sun". I use it to keep arthritis in check, since acid promotes arthritis. I have two replaced knees and I don't want anything else replaced!
Recommended dose : 2 a day

We all know that an apple a day will provide our body with fiber and vitamins and minerals that we need to stay healthy. But did you know that science is recommending an aspirin a day to keep the doctor away? Or rather, half a baby aspirin. The thing is, an aspirin works as a blood thinner, making it less likely for people who have been taking it to have heart attacks, strokes and blood clots. The problem is, the ingredients of aspirin are acidic, so some people are unable to take them due to stomach complications. If you've never heard of this (now common) remedy, check in with your doctor. In the long run, it might just save your life!
