Our unpredictable UK climate has delivered an excellent crop of fruit this year. Up and down the country, gardeners and farmers are reporting both brilliant quality and quantity. The apples and pears are huge, the plums are sweet and delicious whilst the blackberries are simply everywhere. Great to have a bountiful crop before our gardens slip into a less productive period .
This is why I love gardening – the peaks and troughs are just so varied. To date, 2010 has been a mega year for climatic extremes – the coldest winter in 30 years, the first late spring since 1976, a heatwave in late June and the coldest August in 17 years – just what we gardeners need to keep us challenged! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11380925
Do share news of fruit you are picking at the moment – love to hear what visitors are experiencing in their own gardens.I have noticed this yellow fruit growing in my neighbour’s garden. It looks like a very bright yellow pear – does anyone recognise the variety?
