Some of the items on the list can be substituted with cheaper or more easily available options. For example, sticks blown from trees in the wind can be used for marking seed rows instead of bamboo canes, but it is always useful to have a few bamboos in store, just in case nothing else can be found.

There's so much involved with gardening, it seems. I imagine it takes years to get it right down to a science (so that one doesn't even have to think about what they're doing before they do it.)
