London Food Link Big Spring Event

Posted May 15 2010 3:05am

I love the way London grabs an idea and just makes it happen. There are so many exciting green initiatives happening in the city at the moment.

One example is London Food Link which is an active membership network of growers, local busnesses charities, community organisations and local government departments working to improve the sustainability of the capitals food sector. http://www.sustainweb.org/

They hold regular events around the capital to share knowledge and network on ideas and projects involving sustainability. This Wednesday 19th May they are holding their Big Spring Do from 4.30-7pm at Lumen Cafe, 88 Tavistock Place. http://www.sustainweb.org/londonfoodlink/network_do/

I came across this great new cafe whilst wandering around Bloosbury in my lunch break. As well as serving yummy local, seasonal, organic and fairtrade food it has a beautiful courtyard garden and impressive art gallery. It is very peaceful and a great space to clear your head - proabably because it is located inside a rather amazing church as it is part of the Holy Cross social enterprise that helps locally disadvantaged communities in Camden and Islington. The aim is to build a community garden as part of the Capital Growth project which plans to create 2012 new food growing space by 2012- http://www.capitalgrowth.org/

An oasis of calm in a busy city and well worth a visit - http://www.lumencafe.com/social-enterprise
