The sun tempted me into the garden today but the ground was absolutely solid - not much chance of any healthy digging !
Second choice was to dip into some of the wonderful gardening books that I have acquired over the years. Armchair gardening is the best way to remind myself that warmer weather will return eventually. It never fails to get me in the mood for dreaming about beds of beautiful flowers and rows of neat veg ripening in the sun.
Here are two inspirational books that deal with climate change gardening issues that I would suggest you explore on one of these cold winter nights sitting by the fire, drifting off to warmer days….
The first is Matthew Wilson’s New Gardening which is contains a range of ideas for adapting your garden to our unpredictable weather
The second book I have not read but it comes highly recommended in a recent review by Permaculture Magazine. It looks at the issue of growing food locally and offers ideas on how communities can work together. Local Food - How to make it happen in your community is now on my hit list for 2o10.
