Want to Get Back In Shape but You Don’t Like the Gym?

“I lost 30lbs. after baby #2, but still have more weight to lose plus I want to tone up. The one big problem is I don’t like working out and I don’t like the gym. Any advice?”

Congrats on baby #2 and for 30 lbs. of weight loss…wow!  If you’re not an exercise person try changing your outlook on exercise from something you “have to do” to seeing it as the one time that’s for you. You can also view exercise as a way to release stress. If you don’t have someone to watch your baby, you can take your baby for a walk in a stroller (or baby bjorn) or join a stroller exercise class and meet other moms just like you. Getting outside is a great way to release stress, connect with your baby (and calm him or her down), meet other moms and get back in shape. Walking or pushing a stroller up and down hills is also a great way to tone the thighs and buttocks plus boost the heart rate and burn a lot of calories so you lose body fat. Also pay close attention to what you’re eating and stay hydrated w/ water (especially important if you’re nursing). Also another option to exercising is to exercise in your home with an exercise dvd. There are a lot of postnatal dvd’s to chose from. If you’re interested in exercise videos, I created two postnatal dvd’s  shortly after having my children- Stroller workout for Moms and Total Body Toning .  Just be patient and consistent with eating healthy and exercising, and positive results will come in mind, body, and spirit! -Sara Holliday MFT, CPT
