I was invited to attend the launch event of Smiling it Forward as well as learn more about the Children’s Health Fund and tour one of the Mobile Medical Units.
What is the Children’s Health Fund:
Started in 1987 by Paul Simon and Irwin Redlener, MD the Children’s Health Fund is committed to providing health care for homeless and other low-income children. Their “Blue Bus,” a pediatric mobile medical clinic, draws children and families for curbside checkups and treatments.
But it is not only medical, they also offer psych services, nutritional counseling, fitness role models and dental. And they do not stop at children, they provide care for the entire family.
2 things really stood out to me when learning about the CHF: first, the consistency of care, the doctors see families continually for years. They are something that a struggling family can count on. Second, the innovation that it takes to come up with such a model. The Blue Bus was an amazing compact place where so many great things are done. Consistency and Innovation will propel this cause forward, it will give them legs to continue their great work!
Instead of Lolipops or stickers for the children after their visits, the CHF doctors give books.
Tylenol noticed this amazing cause and wanted to get involved and so the Smiling It Forward project was born.
By simply sharing a photo that makes you smile, TYLENOL® will make a $1 donation to Children’s Health Fund. Share your Photo Here
A child’s smile is heartwarming, giggle inducing, bad mood banishing goodness. Children are just so pure, their emotions are raw and true … their smiles are 100% happiness.
It makes me shudder to think of the children that may not smile or laugh on a daily basis, children who are sick or worried or worst of all in trouble. The Children’s Health Fund is out there, they are finding those children and providing them with care.
That is heroic and I would like to raise a smile to the CHF’s hard work. I hope you do too.
