Postpartum Weight Loss: Quickest Way To Lose Alot of Weight

To Sara of Fit by Sara: “After having my second child I put on an additional 30lbs. on top of the extra ten I had after my first child. I REALLY want to lose this weight FAST! What’s the quickest way to lose alot of weight?”

The best way to lose weight is through consistent healthy eating and regular exercise. I’m all about life long changes vs. quick changes that won’t last.  If you want lasting changes you need to look at your eating habits and make simple changes slowly. For example, if you enjoy eating pasta or sandwiches switch to whole wheat or whole grain breads and pastas which will keep you full longer. Also, instead of creams sauces chose marinara; instead of diet drinks chose water; instead of juice choose fresh fruit; instead of creamy salad dressing chose olive oil and vinegar based salad dressings.

You’ll lose weight if you learn to eat when you’re hungry vs. depriving yourself which will result in eating too much at one sitting. Once you learn to eat when you’re hungry you’ll eat more often but the portion sizes will be smaller and heathier. Start back to exercise slowly as well. For example, walk for ten minutes the first day and slowly work your way up to 30-45 min. most days. Find a workout buddy or group to help you stay motivated. The key is to start slowly with changes that are comfortable for you and will last. So you might not lose a ton of weight quickly, but you can lose 2-4 lbs. per week which equals 8-16 lbs per month!  Sara Holliday MFT, CPT
