Postpartum Weight Loss- #1 Weight Loss Tip

To Sara of Fit by Sara: “I’m overwhelmed by all of the weight loss information.  If you were to give the #1 weight loss tip, what would it be?”

From Fit by Sara: “The #1 weight loss tip I have is to learn your body’s hunger cues!  Start noticing when your body is hungry.  Identify what you feel like when you’re hungry. For example when you are hungry are you irritable or tired? Is your stomach rumbling? Once you have identified your hunger cues listen to them and chose healthy foods that nourish your hunger. You’ll probably notice that when you listen to your hunger cues you eat more often, but the portion sizes will be smaller and healthier. What typically happens is we wait too long to eat and the result is we get too hungry and reach for something quick. The “quick somethings” are usually filled with sugar and saturated fats. The quick foods temporary satisfy our hunger and cravings but results in weight gain and low energy. Once you learn to listen to your body, you’ll be less likely to have cravings because you’ll be keeping your blood sugar stablized.  When you keep your metabolism going you’ll also notice you have more energy. So  if you want to lose weight and feel more energy, start noticing when you’re hungry, listen too your body, and chose foods that nourish your body.”- Sara Holliday MFT, CPT
