Mama Victoria’s Slow Cooker French Beef Stew { Gluten-Free }

Posted Aug 16 2012 8:12am

My Mom is pretty fantastic in the kitchen and there are LOTS of times I find myself making some of the same old recipes she made for us growing up. This is one of my favorite things my Mom makes. Mine doesn’t taste exactly like hers, but it did make me feel a little closer to home and brought back lots of nice memories.

Mama Victoria's Slow Cooker French Beef Stew { Gluten-Free }

  • 1.5 lb Beef Stew Meat, cubed
  • 1/2 cup Onion, chopped
  • 2 cups Baby Carrots
  • 2 cups Mushrooms
  • 4 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Dry Red Wine OR Apple Cider Vinegar OR Low-Sodium Beef Stock
  • 1/2 tsp Sea Salt
  • Freshly Ground Pepper, to taste

  1. Lightly brown beef 3-5 minutes each side over medium-high heat skillet.
  2. Place the beef in a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker and turn heat to low.
  3. Add onions, carrots, garlic, dry ingredients, water & other liquid ingredient of your choice to crock pot. DO NOT ADD MUSHROOMS.
  4. Put the lid on and cook until the beef is falling-apart tender when prodded with a fork, about 5 to 7 hours.
  5. 20 minutes before your desired cooking time, add in your mushrooms and continue to cook & serve.
  6. *My Mom usually serves with Long Grain Enriched Rice and I did, too.
