Good afternoon! Its been awhile (again) since I’ve touched this blog, but I’ve been inspired by a sole sister of mine to get back on the blogging bandwagon. That, and I figured I should be documenting my newest journey…I’ll be running the Baltimore Marathon on October 13, 2012, with several races lined up in between.
Yes, you heard that right.
Mama signed up for a freaking marathon!
Since 2005, I have had a connection to this city that I can’t explain (well, I can, but I won’t go into the details now). This city has helped me learn a lot about how resilient, independent, and strong I am…so what better place than to show my physical capabilities? The marathon takes place on October 13 of this year, and training starts in June/July.
This is special because it’ll be the Hubby’s first distance race, we’re running it together, we’re running it in our hometown, AND Train is headlining the concert! (BIG Train fan here…ask my spin students!)
So, that’s my running life for the rest of the year, in a nutshell.
The last time I left you, I was just beginning my training for Zooma, and I am now about 6 weeks into my training and up to 10 miles, and everything is going fairly smoothly. I’ve fallen in LOVE with running again (you think? I signed up for a freaking marathon!), and I’ve managed to keep a variety of workouts in my training plan, in addition to the 3 runs a week. I’m well aware of the fact that once my 26.2 training starts, 3 weekly runs won’t cut it, but for now, I feel that 2 shorter runs, plus a long run works well for the mileage base I am trying to attain.
I’ve stuck to my training plan, for the most part, and have switched my long runs on days that work better for me. I started with doing them on Tuesdays, then last week, I did it on a Saturday, and this week I’ll be doing it on Friday because the family & I are going on vacation. I’ve varied my running times to accommodate family needs; this week, for example, all my runs will be done in the evening because of commitments I have during the day. All my training runs have been conducted outside, which I’m pretty proud of, and I’ve become a stronger runner since last year.
Ok, no more boring posts…I’ll get back into the swing of things this week!
