Red blood cells are not produced from dead cells. Micro-nutrients (like iron, Cu, zinc etc.) are required for development of RBCs in bone marrow. When old RBCs (Average life span of a RBC is 120 days) are destroyed in spleen, their contents (for example- Heme part of Hemoglobin) are recycled back to bone marrow to be used in production new RBCs.
