Holiday Gift Guide 2012: Gifts for Boys (and Giveaway!)
Posted Nov 27 2012 7:23am
As the mom to a six-year-old, it shouldn’t be too surprising that most of these gift ideas are geared toward boys between the ages of 5-12. It is the boy demographic I’m used to shopping for and, frankly, is the only one really on my radar, since we don’t have any baby (or teenage) boys to shop for. So if you need gift ideas for your pre-teen nephew or your four-month-old son, I’m not sure these suggestions will be very helpful.
I do think Buddy would love all of these items (in fact, he actually has one of them), and if we weren’t following a specific theme this Christmas (more to come on that), I could see myself purchasing some of these for him.
One last note: While these are listed in the Boys Holiday Gift Guide, many (if not all) would also make excellent gifts for girls.
Phineas and Ferb Agent P Fleece Throw: My kids have several fleece throws that are perfect for snuggling up to watch a movie or for cold nights. And if your kids love “Phineas and Ferb” as much as my son does, you can’t go wrong with Perry. (Note: this is currently on sale at the Disney Store)
Bottom Row (L-R):
FarFaria (GIVEAWAY ALERT!!): USA Today called this the “Netflix for children’s books” – and they’re totally right. This iPad storybook app is a genius idea … and a fun way to encourage reading. For a low monthly subscription ($3.99), you get access to a wide range of interactive children’s stories for kids between the ages of 2-9. The best part is that once the stories are downloaded, your child can access them anywhere (think airplane rides or long holiday road trips!) and follow along. For Buddy, who is (a) just learning to read, (b) very independent, and (c) obsessed with technology, this is the perfect combination. And don’t worry about boredom: new stories are added weekly to their digital library.

LEGO Walkie Talkies: Buddy has these and loves them (or at least he does when he hasn’t misplaced one of them).
LEGO Storage Container : Does your kid have a million little LEGO pieces? Then this may be the best gift you’ll ever buy.
Magazine subscription: As a magazine addict, maybe I’m biased here, but I do know that all kids love getting mail. So why not get them their very own magazine subscription? Buddy received a subscription to Ranger Rick Jr. (formerly My Big Backyard) for his birthday two years ago and is thrilled whenever we open the mailbox to find a new issue. Hmm, maybe it’s genetic.
The Night After Christmas: A cute story about what happens on December 26, when Santa, Rudolph and all the other reindeer return home to the North Pole. Admit it, you’ve been curious …
This giveaway is open to anyone, worldwide. The winner will be emailed and must respond within 48hrs to confirm. You must have an iTunes account to claim your prize. Please note that FarFaria is available on the iPad only. Good luck!
