Hanging With my #1 Bitch.

Posted Jul 22 2011 11:27am

This is my baby; and my bitch. They’re tight.

My puppster is a 9 year old akita named Brownie. Brownie is the best dog ever. Super well behaved, super fun, and super in love with the two kids. She loves our kids like their her own, even though she came first.  She came even before me. She loves them even though they mess up her routine and put tons of obstacles in the hallway that she has to maneuver around.

I swear she’s smiling at Elijah playing “Dinosaur Train.” (BTW, fellow moms, they’re at “Browniedon Station”) Incidentally, I would have also used natural light here, save for the fact that my shades are staying SHUT today.

She was Elijah’s first pillow. He used to flop right over on top of her. She is also his personal vacuum/clean up crew.

When I am pregnant she follows me like a shadow. I think she know’s I’m pregnant before I do. When I went into labor with Elijah, she whined and cried.

She’s terrified of thunderstorms and people in hats. (hysterical because, she is so big and brooding, people are normally scared of her!!!!) She’s never met a kid she didn’t like. She walks right beside or right in front of “her” kids. She truly is the best dog, and my number one bitch.

Funnily enough, this bitch loves cheese. Feta, goat, cheddar, doesn’t matter. Last night I made Greek salad pita pockets. I must have slipped her 3 oz of cheese, and don’t worry about me slipping her people food. Unfortunately in her old age, she has unexplained weight loss, and the vet says that as long as it’s not poisonous, she can have it. She is quite old for an Akita. She was pleased.

In the pita was Bulgarian feta, cucumbers, bell pepper, vidalia onion, tomato, olives, and a bit of lettuce at the bottom. It was the dressing that was special.

Greek Salad Dressing

  • 3 T EVOO
  • juice of one lemon
  • dollop of dijon
  • 1t oregano
  • 1t white balsamic vinegar
  • salt and pepper

Whisk it all together and toss with all but the lettuce. I used whole wheat pitas, and served them with sweet potato chips and plums!!! It really tasted like summer.  So fresh and yummy.
