I love learning about new tools to help with my home workouts, especially those that require no equipment and travel well. Fit Deck is just such a product. As the name suggests, Fit Deck is a deck of cards with different exercises. For my review, I tried the Body Weight deck since I happen to LOVE body weight exercises.
The cards come in a handy little case that you can storage and easy to pack for travel. There are a few other companies out there making fitness cards, but I love that FitDeck has a wide variety of decks to choose from including, Pilates, stretching, core, cross-train, yoga and more. There are specialty decks for kids and seniors as well. A few of the decks come in an iPhone version too. I am totally getting one of these!
FitDeck, Inc. was founded in 2005 by fitness entrepreneur and inventor Phil Black. Black came up with the idea to create FitDeck after combining the fun of a card game he used to play in college with the rigors of his Navy SEAL training.
The Body Weight deck is color coordinated into four categories:
middle body (aka Core)
Some of the moves are common like pushups, lunges, jumping jacks, and crunches. Other moves were new to me and creative like star jumps and belly angels. Each card comes with a easy-to-follow instructions and illustration.
What I like about a product like Fit Deck is that you can create a wide variety of workouts. The most basic way to use the fit cards is to select a card, perform the exercise and repeat. Each card features clear instructions and illustrations. Many of the main title decks have 56 cards. There are also speciality decks designed to give your usual workout routine an extra boost.
Here are a few other ideas on how you might your FitDeck:
10 Minute Blasts
Deal 10 random cards – do each exercise for 45 seconds with 15 seconds of rest before the next exercise. Deal 10 more, etc. until you hit a workout time you are aiming for. For example, you can deal 30 total cards for a 30 minute workout.
Choose the moves you would like to do and set your own interval time or perhaps just aim for reps for each exercise.
Random cards or your choice - Perform the first card at beginner level, 2nd at intermediate and 3rd at advanced, then repeat the cycle.
Do all the cards of one set, meaning just the upper body or lower body, etc.
Complete a 30-60 second cardio move like jumping jacks, jumping rope, running in place between each FitDeck move. The Body Weight deck does include some cardio moves that you can be sure to use every 2-3 cards as well.

The FitDeck is a great way to start an exercise program for beginners or as addition to a current exercise program. I will certainly continue to use the decks, and plan to get the iPhone app as well.
