Drop an “L” on Your Fifth Grade Teacher.

Posted Nov 13 2012 10:03am

UGH. The past few days I’ve had SERIOUS server issues with my blog. It doesn’t affect how y’all are able to interact with my blog, just my ability to edit/save/store and the like. Therefore, I apologize for the fact that yesterday’s post was a draft, and not the final product. It published an earlier save. I would change it now, and I may still, but it feels somehow disingenuous.

We are now but a mere eight days from Thanksgiving. I feel totally unprepared. I mean, I don’t even have my Christmas tree put up or presents purchased. I typically like to have both of these done by this week. To say I’m the early bird is putting it mildly. To say I get the worm, may or may not be true, but I am not sitting in a line at effing 4am on Black Friday, waiting to elbow someone’s fifth grade teacher to get the best deal on a DVD player/coffee maker combination. Call me crazy, but at 4 am the day after The feast of the Puritans, I want to be where any sane person would be; in bed, slightly hungover, and dead to the world from the effects of tryptophan and wine.

On the bright side, I have been recipe testing like a CRAZY woman. I am finding the balance between healthy and sacrilegiously good for you to be a delicate one. Sure, I could make tofurkey and steamed broccoli, but then I’d want to hang myself in the closet to hide the shame, and then WHO WOULD SERVE DESSERT?

I cannot however simply give over to the desire to make heavy creamed mashed potatoes and sweet potato casserole with butter and cream cheese, OH and halusky (Slovak dumplings) with cheese, bacon, butter, and onion, OHHHH and bread…lots of bread. I cannot eat/make these things because the very next week I have a holiday cocktail party, and I’m wearing a dress that leaves little to the imagination. Two days after that? I have another.

Therein lies my issue, taste without dress size compromise.

I got this.

Fortunately, this appetizer dip recipe kicks so much ass, you’ll have to sit on a donut.
