If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m pretty much in love with this lady. And on one specific night, we were trying to decide what is the best way to turn your cocoa peppermint. Don’t judge. When your bestie is another food blogger, this is inevitably where your conversations head toward. Food and balls….don’t worry, the balls are food too…when we’re sober.
Anyways, we threw out ideas like crushed candy canes, schnapps, extract, mint oil, butter mints (I was drinking, I realize that sounds AWFUL now.)
So I decided to try all of the above.
My conclusion? Schnapps or Extract all the way. Alas, I am often feeding small children this cocoa, so I mainly use extract.
Schnapps is for late-night naked cocoa. Just be careful not to spill peppermint schnapps on your nethers…I think it would burn. I am glad I have no personal experience with this. I can tell you a funny story about the Viking and drunken icy hot application, but….Ok I’ll tell you…being the only one in our group schooled in anatomy, I oft get strange calls in the middle of the night…”is it normal to feel like you have a fever if you don’t?” “If I eat a whole head of cauliflower, will I get sick?” and my favorite to this day…”I put icyhot on my inner thigh, because I pulled the muscle….it ended up where icy hot should NEVER be. HOW DO I GET IT OFF?????” I think the poor Viking was in tears. I was too…I was crying with laughter.
Not to mention that one time the Cop thought it would be prudent to rub his eyes after handling tiger balm…I assure you, much hilarity ensued. I wonder why I’m the only one that finds these occurrences hysterical? Hmm. I think it points to a possible personality flaw.
Dear sweet Lord why are men so dumb? I mean I’ve NEVER rubbed my eyes after chopping jalapenos..scout’s honor!!
Anyways, this recipe is for a crock pot’s worth of cocoa for a party with peppermint and Mexican alternatives…..I also put instant espresso powder in it because, well, otherwise it’s just sooooo sweet.
