Swollen Hands

Posted by michaael

My wife has symptoms of Fibromyalgia.  In addition, her left hand started swelling a year ago and two months later, her right hand started swelling and they have been swollen every day since then along with a lot of pain.  Also, her ankles and feet swell often and are painful.  She has seen two Rheumatologists, two Neurologists, several Internists, two Psychiatrist and an Allergists but they have no idea of what is causing the swelling.  All of the MRI's and other tests show NO inflammation but it is obvious that her hands and feet are very swollen.  At times she wakes up with a swollen face but not very often.  The nerve conduction test shows nerve damage because of the swelling but they cannot figure out the cause of the swelling.  Since Fibromyalgia does not cause unknown swelling like this, I do not think that is what it is but she does have the other symptoms of Fibromyalgia.  Any advice will be appreciated.  Thanks,

Well though I am not a physician I would have to ask what is her diet like? Salt can often create swelling. Sometimes almost instinatously. Additionally stress, sickness, and lack of exercise can also cause swelling or phyisical symptoms. Since she has been seen by a physician I would take about two weeks and write down everything she is eating on a contant basis. Evaluate her emotional well being, and any major stressors she maybe dealing with.

After that I would evaluate each item individually to see the sodium level in the foods and Beverages she is consuming. Many times we don't think that the foods or beverages we intake have an affect on our phyisical bodies- but it is quite the contrary. Take a few weeks to evaluate her diet and you will be amazed at how much it will help. Reduce her stress and increase her exercise level. Even if its just 5-10 minutes. It can make a world of difference!
