Reading Goal: Check!

Posted Dec 02 2010 12:00am
One of the other things I like to spend my time doing is reading. I have always loved to read books. Well, not just read books but get lost in books. I'm the type of reader that can get so absorbed and lost in a story that I don't hear anything going on around me. Mr. Bubba can attest to that. I'm sure it can be annoying to those who try to talk to me when I'm in that space with a book. I've tried to make sure I can stay somewhat tuned into my surroundings when I'm reading but it doesn't always work very well.

Some of my earliest memories are of going to the public library to check out books. 8 at a time, that was the maximum allowed. There were times I'd be done with all 8 books by that night, and not short little books but full length novels. It's a good thing I can read pretty fast. Harry Potter books 1-4 in a weekend...

Anyhow, my goal for 2010 was to read more books than I had read in 2009. In 2009, I read 21 books. Ultimately, I always aim for 52 books in 52 weeks but with other things going on that hasn't happened yet. So, I decided I wanted to read at least 22 books this year. On New Year's, just past midnight I started a new book and a new list.

As of last week sometime, I don't remember the exact date, I think before Thanksgiving I finished my 22nd book. Yahoo! I've met my goal and I've got a few more books in the stack to read so 22 won't be my final number. I'm glad that I don't have to try to finish book 22 on December 31st at 11:59 pm as we're watching the ball drop.

Some of my books have been light reading, also a lot of knit lit. Some really GOOD books and some meh books. If a book doesn't have me in the first 50 pages, I don't finish reading it and I refuse to feel guilty about it. There are so many other good books to be read that I don't have the time to spend on books that are not good.
