For years, my daughter has been suffering with unknown symptoms. At first, I felt she was over-reacting since she was always an athlete. She never took pain meds, nor desired it. She's tall, slim, was very healthy, and also has severe ADHD, and being treated for it. When she turned 10, she caught an unknown disease now known as Lyme Disease. She was treated, but it cannot be cured. She was fine for years later. Then when she turned 22, she started looking for pain meds from friends and trying to get them thru doctors. She was taking my husbands meds, known as OxyContin, 40mg, and we noticed they were always missing. She ended up getting into trouble here and there and we were sure it was a drug problem. She is now 32, and lives with us still. After going on State Assistance, we sent her to the best doctors in the area, and outside the state, taking money from our pocket because she has no health assistance. FINALLY they realized that as a result of the Lyme Disease, as a developing child, mixed with her ADHD, she developed severe Post Trauma Stress Disorder. This was a result of us not believing her and thinking she just wanted to get high. She really was in pain we later found out, and because of us not being supportive, she will never be the same. Now we do all we can to help her. Last month, she was disgnosed with the entire reason of her seeking desperately for OxyContin. She wanted nothing but just OxyContin, and when we gave it to her, she acted like the Melanie we remember. She was Disnosed with Fibromyalgia - a very serious and chronic pain disorder, that can only be treated by Pain Management. They tried all kinds of other meds. We have always been dead against a young person taking such a highly addicting pain med, but now we must say, it has saved her life. She would make up in the morning sweating with pain, cranky, begging us for something to help, and constantly going to the emergancy room with a huge bill, and no diagnosis. Thanks to the right doctors, we have target the exact problem, and she now takes 2 OxyContin 40mg a day, and one 30mg IR Oxycontin at lunch, for the last 4 years, and is now working, finished college, got married and has a beautiful daughter, who they carefully watch to make sure she doesn't get what she has, which was passed to Melanie thru her Father's genes. If it wasn't for this Natural Opium Pill, she would be a junkie, dead, or in jail. And to this day we will always feel horrible how we never believed her, or listened to her. She's a strong woman, and very althletic again. If we kept ignoring her, she would still have Stress Disorder. The OxyContin has cured the Post Trauma Stress, and all her symptoms. She wakes up every day as the little girl we always remembered. We have her back. So to all the parents out there - if you notice a huge change in your kid and ignore it, you may be sorry someday. We almost lost her forever. Her anger towards us was severe and she would break things and scream to listen to us to help her. OxyContin saved her life. It truely is a miracle drug.
My apologies for not posting in a while. I spent the past few days at my younger brother's and couldn't post because it would have been rude.
So now I'm very tired and about to nap, sitting here, upright.
But I felt the need to write that I have been prescribed OxyContin, and look forward to starting taking it because I believe it is likely to be the best way to manage my pain. I'm going to start taking Oxy Monday because I'm going to go to the local skate park tomorrow. My pain is that much more tolerable, and my life that much better, that I can resume the activity that, after writing and sex, gives my life purpose!
...It's important to note, here, that doctors will tell you that narcotics will turn you into a zombie who never will leave his/her couch.
More bullshit(which is all you should expect to hear when a doctor talks about narcotic/opiate analgesics). When you take someone's pain level down to a tolerable level, they can stop being a zombie, get off the couch and do what they will. Before treatment the person was in too much pain to be able to move much. You take away the pain, you take away the impetus behind the person's near-immobility.
...I'm going to be taking 10mg pills every eight hours, so the dosing is more convenient... Better than taking five Percocets every three hours and fifteen minutes, anyway.
I just hope me taking 10mg of OxyContin doesn't mean I'll only be getting 30mg of oxycodone per day. That would seem to be a step back in my treatment, since I currently take 50mg of oxycodone per day.
Of course, you'll be able to read all about how well things go this week. But I'm cautiously optimistic!
