Our Five Favorite Holiday Activities

Posted Nov 24 2009 12:00am
Christmas is a very exciting holiday for our family. We celebrate Jesus' birthday and a visit from Santa Clause. For the Dora's Christmas Carol contest from , we our listing our five favorite holiday activities. We would love to win a copy of the DVD, "Dora's Christmas Carol". We realized that we have way more than just five favorites but here is a small list.

One of our favorite things to do happens on Thanksgiving night. Even though Daddy has had the house Christmas lights up since a warm day in October, we have to wait until Thanksgiving night to turn them on. We all run outside and do a countdown and then Daddy plugs them all in. We know it is the start of Christmas for us.

Our second favorite thing to do is on Christmas eve. Our church has a Christmas instead of a service. We go to listen to all the beautiful music and watch the skits put on about the Christmas story. This year Daddy may even be part of the skit.

Our third favorite thing to do is that we do a seven day countdown to celebrate Jesus' birthday. We have the set of "What God Wants for Christmas". We read a story each night about the birth of Jesus and then we open a small present. When we get to the seventh day, we open the last present and find out that all God wants for Christmas is us! It seems to surprise us every time!

Our fourth favorite thing to do is to make Christmas cookies for Santa. We decorate sugar cookies for Santa. We think he may need a little break when he visits our house so we put cookies out on our Santa plate and we leave a cup of milk. We also leave carrots for the reindeer because they might be hungry too.

Our fifth favorite holiday thing to do for the holidays is to have our own immediate family celebration on Christmas Eve night. Daddy makes chili and sometimes some of our Grandma's and Grandpa's will stop by. We get to open any present that was left for us by anyone other than Santa and we might get to open one present from each other. We read the Christmas story from the bible and also "The Night Before Christmas". We sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus and put him in our manger.

During the month we also dig out all of our Christmas books and . We pick one each evening to watch and read. We have a fun filled December even though it is hard to wait for Christmas. We try to fill each day with something fun so we don't get too impatient waiting for our favorite holiday. We love celebrating Jesus' birthday and we love celebrating the arrival of Santa.
