Milnacipran: Another FDA Approved Treatment for Fibromyalgia?

Posted Jan 22 2009 4:32pm

On January 14th 2009 Forest Laboratories and Cypress Biosciences announced that the FDA Approved Milnacipran [Savella] for treatment of Fibromyalgia.

The drug seems to have encouraging effects on fibromyalgia suffers however there are some cautions on the drug:

Increased Blood Pressure
Increased Heart Rate
Cardiac Problems
Elevates the liver enzymes

It Should be carefully monitored in people with:

Hypertension
Seizure disorders
Mania
Cardiac disease
Narrow Angled Glaucoma

So how safe is the drug? So far the word is the FDA has approved it with these cautions saying  it could be out in pharmacies as soon as March 2009. As with any anti-depressants it should be monitored in children, and young adults as it can increase thoughts of suicide. And for the rest of us…I guess we just have to wait and see.

If you have concerns or comments about the drug Milnacipran place submit your comments here or to fightingfibromyalgia@gmail.com

Until next time,

Keep taking it one day at a time!
