How does the Docotor find out you have Fibromyalgia?

In my case, it was a matter of ruling out other diagnoses as well as checking for other signs of fibro (such as tender points).  Once RA, Lupus, and other autoimmune issues were ruled out and the doctor was able to pinpoint my symptoms, I was given the fibromyalgia diagnosis.  My first rheumotologist didn't really believe in fibro.  He said that it was just an umbrella diagnosis for those symptoms that can't be explained by anything else.  He was a jerk.  My second rheum however was wonderful and totally validates fibro as a real illness and validates the pain that fibro patients suffer.  So it really depends on the doctor how he or she makes the diagnosis.  If you really believe that you've got fibro and you feel that you are not being heard regarding your symptoms, I recommend finding a new doctor.
