Healing begins in the brain

Go for good brain waves

A good bit of the challenge of fibromyalgia is to feel and think positive when bogged down with a myriad of symptoms including pain. The more training one can do to get the brain working for you instead of against you the faster healing can occur. This falls under the category of "New Psychology." Rather than the old paradigm where you rehash your life and problems in order to understand where your pain comes from, new psychology is more about deciding what conscious and subconscious thoughts and beliefs you prefer, and asking the therapist to help you retrain your mind.

I've written a a little bit about the tool of hypnotherapy when working with your thoughts, your beliefs, and your emotions. Now I want to address biofeedback and the brain. This is a very exciting avenue with potential to help an individual change patterns in the brainwaves which have contributed to symptoms. Neurotherapy, a form of biofeedback, can alter brainwave patterns resulting in behavioral and symptomatic changes. In other words, the brain can be trained in a way which reduces symptoms of headaches, depression, fatigue, and pain. This is a completely non-invasive procedure, but you are directing the "show" as you learn the messages you get with biofeedback and begin to adopt what works. Practitioners at The Neurotherapy Centers of Washington D.C. say: "We are finding a virtual remission of fibromyalgia symptoms (pain, energy, cognitive, mood, balance-coordination problems) in over 70% of people who complete treatment that combines stimulation neurofeedback with correction of muscle imbalances using surface EMG and myofascial/ craniosacral therapy." Believe.
