This year I'm participating in the 2nd annual Knitting and Crochet Blog Week hosted by Eskimimi Knits , there are prompts for 7 days of fiber related posts with an additional wild card day. Stay tuned to see what this is all about...
Part of any fibre enthusiast’s hobby is an appreciation of yarn. Choose two yarns that you have either used, are in your stash or which you yearn after and capture what it is you love or loathe about them.
First and foremost, I have got to say I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Malabrigo yarns. All of them! I've worked with Malabrigo Sock, Malabrigo Lace, Malabrigo Chunky and I've swatched with Malabrigo Silky Merino! Oh my, how I love Malabrigo! If I could fill a room with Malabrigo I would love to just roll around in it, with clothing because I've heard of people wanting to roll around in Malabrigo with no clothing. That would be awful! So what do I love about Malabrigo
The feel... it feels so soft and soft and more soft, not scratchy, not irritating
The colors... oh my, the color selections, especially many of the variegated colors
It's so easy to work with... minimal splitting, no catching, no tangling
I can always find the generous yardage for a reasonable price at several local yarn shops (LYS) near me
There is a situation I have to fix with the Malabrigo, I haven't kept anything I've knit with Malabrigo for myself. I have quite a stash of it hanging out just waiting to be the perfect project for me to keep, according to Ravelry I have... a lot.
I had the pleasure of meeting the folks behind Malabrigo at Stitches West 2011. I feel absolutely awful for forgetting the name of the woman I had a conversation with, she apologized for her English, which wasn't bad at all in my opinion. Then we slipped into Spanish and then all bets were off, we talked for 10 minutes easily and I was slightly embarrassed about how much I gushed about my love of Malabrigo to her. She was great!
A selection of my Malabrigo stash and projects (it's a well documented fact on Ravelry that I love Malabrigo and I've even received it in swap packages)
Once again, it's the colors, the feel, the ease with which it knits up, the generous yardage for the reasonable price... I must admit I have 13 different colorways of Lorna's Laces in my Ravelry stash, in about 20 skeins. Now that I think about it, there may actually be more. I'm one of the crazy people that's checking the JBW website first thing on the first of the month to see what the Limited Edition Color for the month will be.
The most recent object made from Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted, in Limited Edition color Peppermint Mocha that was made for Stitches West 2010
What about you? What are your favorite fibers to work with? Which ones do you hate?
